Pedro Pascal Says Learning the Cello for ‘Behemoth!’ Was Harder Than Game of Thrones Battle Scenes

Pedro Pascal

Hollywood actor Pedro Pascal has revealed that learning to play the cello for his upcoming film Behemoth! was one of the biggest challenges of his acting career. The actor even joked that he would rather return to the intense battle scenes of Game of Thrones than learn the musical instrument again.

Pascal shared his experience at the London Film Festival premiere of Behemoth! on Tuesday, October 13. The film is directed by Tony Gilroy and follows a talented cellist who returns to Los Angeles after spending nearly 20 years touring.

Speaking about the role, Pascal admitted that he had never felt so nervous about a project before. Although his previous roles involved demanding physical and emotional performances, he said learning the cello was a completely different experience.

“I’d never been so afraid,” Pascal said while describing the pressure he felt during preparation for the film.

Pedro Pascal Compares Cello Lessons to Game of Thrones Battles

Pedro Pascal is known for taking on challenging roles, including his appearance in Game of Thrones. In the popular series, he played Oberyn Martell, who faced a brutal fight against Gregor Clegane, also known as the Mountain.

However, Pascal said he would choose that dangerous fictional fight over learning to play the cello convincingly.

The actor also joked that he would rather be thrown off a cliff with Nicolas Cage than go through the same musical training again. His comments showed just how difficult he found the preparation for Behemoth!.

Despite the struggle, Pascal developed a greater appreciation for the instrument. He explained that holding the cello made him feel comfortable, even though learning to play it had initially frightened him.

Alexa Swinton Praises Pedro Pascal’s Kindness

Seventeen-year-old actress Alexa Swinton, known for Thunderbolts!, also spoke about her experience working with Pascal.

Swinton praised the actor for his kindness, calm attitude and polite behaviour on set. She said working alongside him showed her that success and good manners can go hand in hand.

Her comments offered another look at Pascal’s personality beyond his performances on screen.

Behemoth! Brings Attention to the World of Film Music

Along with its family drama, Behemoth! explores the work that goes into creating music for films. The project aims to highlight film scoring, a part of the movie industry that audiences may not often think about.

Director Tony Gilroy said that even some experienced members of the production crew had never visited the scoring stages where much of this work takes place.

The film’s subject also received a positive response from musicians involved in the production. Eva Victor, the writer, director and actor behind Sorry, Baby, recalled that many musicians were happy to see a film focused on their profession.

“Finally, a movie about us,” they told the cast and crew.

Victor explained that film scoring plays an important role in filmmaking but often receives little attention from the public. She hopes the movie will help audiences understand the effort behind this part of the creative process.

With Pascal taking on a demanding new role, Behemoth! offers viewers a chance to see a different side of the actor while exploring the work of the musicians who help bring movies to life.
